For those of you unfamiliar with Catherine from CashandJoy.com, she is one of the most down to earth and pleasant people you will probably ever meet. Not only that, she is a fantastic marketer and is living the mythical “Internet lifestyle” that we hear so much about. I really had a blast talking with her and managed to learn quite a lot in the process.

The reason I really wanted to interview Catherine was that she has built a very successful online business doing what she loves. And she loves helping people! She is the perfect example of someone who focuses on doing good things for people. It’s an inspiration, really.

When someone can focus on giving incredible value to their readers without having a hidden agenda, it’s awesome to see! Catherine actually gives away a free 30 minute consulting call to each new email subscriber. That’s unheard of! It blew me away so much that it inspired me to offer a number of free consulting calls throughout June.

Offering this type of consulting is a win-win all the way. Her clients get to spend 30 minutes talking to someone who is very knowledgeable and motivating and she gets some crucial feedback into the minds of her readers.

  • What do they really need help with?
  • What are their biggest problems?
  • What services/products can she provide to help solve them?

I picked up a ton of great ideas from our short chat and here are some of the ones that resonated the most with me:

  • Why she focuses on connections instead of numbers
  • The importance of being ruthless with your time
  • Why you NEED to rock your readers world
  • Why a small engaged email list beats the shit out of a big list filled with luke warm people
  • Why it’s imperative to figure out who your audience is and then find them

One thing that really stuck with me was when she said that all we really need to be successful online is to have a few hundred people really love what we are doing. A few hundred out of a few hundred million!  Let that sink in for a moment.

I mean, can’t we all find at least a few hundred people who are absolutely crazy about what we are doing online?
