Jobs are those pesky things that get in the way of us doing what we really want to do. It’s a part of life that most of us can’t seem to get away from.

I like to classify all jobs into three categories; the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

The Good

When I refer to a good job, I’m not talking about a job with a high salary, a generous benefits program, and a hearty pension plan. What I’m talking about is a job that you love. There have been very few people I’ve met in my life that have told me that they honestly loved what they did for a living.

Having a job you love is not like work at all (from what I’m told). It’s more like a paid hobby. To me, that’s the way it should be. Unfortunately, 95% of the working class don’t actually love their jobs, they tolerate them!

I am jealous of those folks who have found their passion in life and were able to turn it into a career, I really am. I’ve been searching for my “calling'” for years and still struggle with it every day.

My father, for example, works at UCLA as a researcher and LOVES his job. He would be doing the work he does even if he didn’t get paid. He works on weekends, works late hours sometimes, and yet is happy and content. That’s the way it ought to be for all of us!

The Bad

This is where most of America finds themselves. These are the jobs that people just show up to, work mindlessly and meaninglessly and go home. It’s all about getting through the day and collecting a paycheck. The kids gotta eat right?? This is a sad place to be and I’ve been here many times.
It’s depressing, frustrating, and boring. Way too many people are living this existence and there is no need for it.

There are always jobs out there for those who are passionate about something. Yes, even in this economy, you can find a job if you really go after it. The problem is that most people don’t. It’s hard and takes work. Americans are inherently lazy and we all know it.

The Ugly

Welcome to my world. This is where I am today and why I created this blog. As depicted in the photo above, this is the graveyard of jobs. Staying here too long may actually kill you. People have had heart attacks resulting from job related stresses. There is no worse place to be career wise that here.

The Bad refers to the bottomless pit of despair that swallows us each day as we grind out our painfully long commutes and wish we were going somewhere else…anywhere else.. The days seem never ending and every day is a laborious and exceptionally dull grind.

Personally, I feel like I’m stuck in the movie “Groundhog Day”, where every day is exactly the same and there’s nothing I can do to change it. Stress, anxiety, and depression are results of being here too long. Well, I’ve been here too long. Knowing you’re here is the key to getting out and I’m working double time on getting the hell out!

If you’re here with me, I only wish that you take action today on finding a new way to live. It’s not sop much about getting out and just finding another job that you’ll eventually hate, but finding something you have a real and honest passion for. I wish you luck.
