The World Is Your Oyster, Now Go Find Your Pearl
Feb

Can you remember a time when you were doing something like watching a movie, taking a walk, or maybe looking at something beautiful and were overcome with an incredible sense of motivation, hope, or inspiration?
It’s an indescribable feeling of power and one that can change your life if you act on it.
Those moments are few and far between (for me anyway) and they seem almost random, but when they come to us, it’s like the world is ours for the taking.
Hopefully you know what I’m talking about here and this has happened to you at some point in your life. It’s a truly amazing feeling even though it often lasts for just a few seconds. The lasting impression we get is enough to reignite our passion and helps us remember why we’re on this planet.
The World Is Ours-If We Choose To Take It
When we are in the state of mind where we feel we can accomplish anything, WE CAN! Seriously, it’s all about your mindset. Have you ever walked into a room and known that you owned it? What happens? People are drawn to you and you do own it.
When you walk into that same room being unhappy, lacking confidence, or filled with self doubt, nobody seems to pay any attention to you because you created it.
Life is what we decide it is. There really isn’t much more to it than that. If we decide that it’s going to be filled with passion, happiness, and peace, then it will be. If we decide it’s going to suck, then guess what, it does!
Life is far too short to spend it being unhappy. There is virtually no limit to what we can accomplish, yet most of us are living like we are stuck with the hand life has dealt us. It’s time to find your passion, the things that you care most about, and start living them.
Finding Your Pearl
When I say that the world is our oyster, it simply means that there is nothing we cannot do. The only reason we can’t accomplish something is when we believe that we can’t. That’s it!
Finding your pearl is another matter. Your pearl is your calling in life, what you were meant to do with your time on earth. This is not something that usually falls into your lap, but rather we must look deep within ourselves to find out what really inspires us to be the best person we are capable of being.
I’ve spent a great deal of time over the last 15+ years trying to figure out what to do with my life. I always ended up being frustrated because I never found an answer. I think a lot of people probably experience similar feelings when trying to determine their path in life and many give up searching and settle for whatever they can find.
All I can say is DO NOT give up searching for your purpose. We were all put on this Earth for a reason, and that reason is not to just float through life and accept whatever we are given.
There is much more to life than sitting behind your desk, counting the minutes until you can leave. What we are in essence doing here is biding our time until we die. Get off your ass right now and do something about it.
Life is a gift, don’t leave it unwrapped!
The reason I am so passionate about this is because I have wasted far too many years being unhappy. I have allowed my life to become one big ball of stress, hardship, and misery. I’m 39 years old right now, but often feel like I’m 60.
The years of unhappiness have wreaked havoc on my mind, body, and emotions. (I also used to have a good sense of humor, but that’s fading too….)
So what am I doing about it? You’re reading it right now!
Pursuing my passion is bringing joy back into my life and allowing me to look forward to a better life. What are you looking forward to? Are you excited about your future?
If you aren’t, then you are missing out on what life is all about.
Whatever your passion is, I urge you to pursue it with all your heart. There is nothing we cannot create for ourselves and once we realize that, the world is truly our oyster.

Another great article Steve. I love the new emphasis on opportunity that you have in your writing lately. You are staying true to who you are and what your blog is about but instead of just complaining you are helping us do something about it. Great job!
Steve
Thanks Steven, I appreciate it.
I’m really trying to be more positive about things and I have had a mixed reaction from my readers.
I’ve seen comments increase and offers to help me increase, but my traffic and subscribers are not increasing.
Not really sure what that’s about…
David
A little positivity never hurts, great article!
I’m looking for my passion right now. For a long time I wanted to sit down and try and figure out what my passion was. I’ve learned it doesn’t work that way. You have to live life with the intention of finding your passion and it will come to you.
Steve
David,
You have made a great observation. I think it’s rare for someone to be able to just sit and think about what really inspires them. It’s all about experiencing different things and living life. If you are lucky enough to find something that truly moves you, you are a very lucky person.
It’s up to you then to go out and live that passion!

Excellent post, Steven. But then that’s becoming quite the habit with you. 🙂
Steve
Why thank you Barry 🙂

Hi Steve,
I know it may not seem like it, but I have been reading your posts. What I am hearing you say these days is that you are daring to put a smile on your face and to look forward. My guess is that this is a major first step.
Somewhere along this journey you will find an inspiration. It may be something you read, a conference you attend, a chance meeting at Starbucks…and a door will open for you. Do you follow @justinlevy ? You might be interested in reading this post from January http://justinrlevy.com/category/announcements/ You will see how he talks about how he came to work for Chris Brogan and now is with Citrix. It is a great story of serendippity. While I don’t really “know” Justin, I have the feeling he is a pretty positive person.
I will stay in touch here…I know you will find your way. And along the way many will learn from you.

I am not familiar with Justin Levy, but will check him out.
Thanks for the link and for your continued support.

This is a really nice analagy, well done. Its so true that before you can make the most of your life you have to find your purpose, because, without it, what is life really?
